Projection in the Annex
this page is still somewhat of a WIP. J wrote most of this and George is [slowly] filling in some of the more technical details. Sorry J.
Qlab
Video Output
Create a new NDI output in file > workspace settings > video > output routing > new output route , call it something sensible such as DiCaffeine - Show Name.
Next head to Video Outputs and Create one or more stages set to the area(s) you wish to project onto (using the warping tab). It is worth remembering that if you're final projected area is of a different aspect ratio to the initial area you will need to adjust the resolution to match so that what you're projecting doesn't get squished.
Making Cues
Select the icon which looks like some camera film. This creates a video cue. Set a source as normal for a Qlab cue, then on the I/O page use the video output drop down to select the stage you wish to project it on.
NDI
NDI is a protocol where you throw Projection onto the network from one computer and then have another computer listening on the same network to then display it. You need the IP address of the diCaffeine box to be able to restart it once you start sending NDI.
DiCaffeine
Dicaffeine is an NDI receiver and output solution whose physical form is an installation running on a Dell mini PC (which is labelled as stagesoc-ndi). The configuration interface is available at [IP address]. Ask someone who Knows for the password. or guess it.
Getting video somewhere
The iSolutions projector should project anywhere you might want it to, and is probably better than anything else we could get or hire in anyway.
In 2026, Annex officer Rubens Pirie, with permission from the iSolutions AV team, ran a HDMI-DVI cable from Tardis to the projector. The dicaffeine box was left installed in Tardis, and we were given a projector remote. This allows us to change the input of the projector, shutter and unshutter it, and power it on and off. The previous alternative method is left below for posterity.
OLD METHOD
Put the Dicaffeine box on the lectern and connect the HDMI fly lead and power, and turn the box on. Use the Sy panel and turn the projector on and change the input. You'll also need to roll the projector screen back up. This involves prodding around inside the lectern - ask someone to show you how to do this the first few times. It is quite simple though.
