Annex Storage

We have quite a few stores in the Annex, and several cupboards/chests that use for storage but are movable so we reference with individual names. The main stores, and what is currently stored in them is described below, although individual small items can move between stores based on the whims of whoever is putting them away. It should also be noted that each store has a laminated page taped to the front door that has a list of what is stored inside, although these need to be updated to reflect some recent changes.

Stores:

Upper Store:

This store is accessed through the fire escape and is mostly used to store stage and H&S related items. It is the storage place for:

  • Screws
  • Power and manual tools (mitre saw, circular saw, jigsaw, electric planer, belt sander, drills, impact driver)
  • PPE (hard hats, ear defenders, earplugs, high-vis jackets, rigging gloves, knee pads, masks)
  • Rigging equipment (pulleys, hemp, tab rollers)
  • Cleaning equipment (brooms, dustpans and brushes, and our vacuum cleaner)
  • Hinges and L-brackets
  • Ironmongery (door handles, tap fixings, wall support frames for shelves)
  • Bolts and nuts
  • The TD, Annex officer and Treasurer lockers

We also have a tool chest in Upper Store that we call George that is red on the right hand side of the store as you enter, and is very rarely moved, but is still on wheels, so be careful if you put an unbalanced load on top of his lid. George is labelled on the outside, and inside him is stored:

  • Set squares
  • Tape measures
  • Hammers and rubber mallets
  • Pliers and wire strippers
  • Sandpaper
  • Handsaws, both for wood and metal
  • Staple guns, and staples for them
  • Wood chisels
  • Wrenches

Generally speaking, if a stage-related item isn't wood/building material, then it will be stored in upper store. Upper store is also generally held open with a long block of wood kept just inside the door frame of the store since the motion detector inside has a tendency to take some time to turn on the internal light.

Small Store:

Small store is accessed either from the main theatre room in the top-stage-left corner of the room, or from the fire escape (the fire escape entrance is typically blocked by the Nuffield shelves. Small store is also a more generalist store and, depending on which show is happening and at what point in the week we are, several items may or may not be stored in small store. However, there are some fixed items that are fairly consistently stored in small store:

  • The followspot trolley that holds two followspots along with their gel frames that go on the front, two followspot support poles, and a single channel dimmer for one followspot
  • The Midas M32 in its case, generally stored under the table along the left hand side of the room - large black flightcase with red wheels and latches
  • The A&H MixWizard in its black flight case under the desk on the left side
  • The A&H GL2400 in a silver flight case on wheels, under the desk on the left side of the store
  • The ETC Element in its blue flight case under the desk on the left side of the room
  • The ETC Programming Wing and two nice monitors in their cardboard boxes on top of the filing cabinets (to be replaced with a custom flight case SOON™)
  • The plastic storage box holding Cans packs and Headsets (single or both ear), and adapter boxes for connecting Cans to the sound desk
  • Smallest dims are in a green flight case with wheels at the back of the store
  • The lighting desk support that is used at the back of the room for show nights
  • The Failed Under Continuous Testing area where cables, lights, tools or other electrical items that are faulty are stored until they can be inspected by a qualified individual and repaired if possible, either by the Annex officer or by sending the item off to be repaired externally
  • Monitors, keyboards and mice for the sound and lighting desks
  • The broken biscuits stockpile
  • Blue tissue roll
  • Kettle & Microwave
  • Community cutlery
  • First aid kit, eye wash station etc, on the inside of the door

Inside small store there are also two filing cabinets that are behind the door into the main theatre room when it is opened, and they hold:

  • Stationary (pens, pencils, rulers, erasers, pencil sharpeners)
  • Extension cables (multiple 13A to 13A multi, 1x True1 to 13A multi)
  • Cat5 network cables & a spare 10/100 network switch
  • XLR cables of various lenghts, and multicore boxes and extensions for these
  • 13A distro - 13 to IEC, figure 8, etc
  • Power benders (13-16, 16-13, etc)
  • 16A power cables, Tridents
  • Big power - 32A cable, 32A to 63A, 32A Y split
  • Speakon cable
  • Antenna cable (BNC)
  • Jack cables, audio benders

Tardis

TARDIS is a store that is in the top-stage-left hand corner of the main theatre room and is largely dedicated to sound, to know how to use it, direct yourself to How to TARDIS. Inside TARDIS is:

  • The lighting PC and its box of cables
  • The 2 stagesoc owned Mac Minis
  • The lighting loom
  • The sound loom and snakes
  • Various powerbanks, chargers etc
  • The Bluetooth Device

Lower Store:

Lower store is accessed through the corridor between the theatre room and the green room or the fire escape. It is also referred to as mould store due to a persistent mould issue that is now (hopefully) fixed and has the following items stored inside:

  • The COSHH cupboard which is where we store all our hazardous substances (paint, sealant, whitener)
  • Mic coffin where we store the mics we use for shows
  • Our mic stands on a series of clips on the RHS wall
  • Big Dims and Small Dims (extra dimmer racks we can bring out if we're using more lights)
  • The Stagebox & IEM rack and the extra DL8 stagebox
  • The two Little Giant ladders along the LHS wall (secured with bungee cords)
  • Our power distros: 32A to 16A multi, 32A to 13A multi, 16A to 13A multi

Filing Cabinets:

The filing cabinets can be accessed in the corridor between the Annex and the green room, opposite Lower store, these contain:

  • Lighting gels 1)
  • DMX cables and DMX benders
  • TRS cables and TRS benders
  • Mounting hardware for lights
  • Uncut gels

Big Store:

Big store is accessed through the green room and is used to store large stage-related items as well as new lighting store and several movable chests/storage boxes. Big store holds:

  • Wood store at the back of big store FIXME link to wood store page organisational system when that page is made
  • Hardwood and plywood sheets are stored horizontally towards the back of big store
  • The tread steps and sides in sizes of 1 - 4 feet high are stored at the back of big store
  • Tab chest where we store pieces of tab that are not being used is stored at the back of big store
  • The Juliet Tower bases which are described here
  • Deck, both stagesoc deck and ali-deck, is stored under lighting store just to the right of the entrance to big store 2)
  • Flats, split into small and big flats, are stored on the left hand side of big store
  • The doors used in door flats are kept with small flats
  • Deck legs from 3 foot to 5 foot high are stored directly in front of the entrance to big store, split by height
  • Bracing legs for deck are kept behind the deck legs storage area
  • A metal bin used to store small wood pieces that are less useful (generally under a foot long)
  • FIXME need to add what is in cold storage

Big store also holds three of our named storage chests: John, Bessie and Bessie Jr. All three are movable and are on wheels, but the wheels on the Bessies are relatively stiff so John is the most commonly used chest for moving items around campus. Bessie is directly in front of the entrance to big store, and John and Bessie Jr are stored in the big store corridor. John holds:

  • The clamps used on deck legs and bracing

Bessie holds:

  • The clamps and braces used for scaffolding poles
  • Scaffolding poles
  • Foam that is used to wrap around deck legs under raises

Bessie Jr holds:

  • The safety caps used on deck legs
  • 1 and 2 foot deck legs
1)
Gels are organised in approximate colour order, rather than by LEE gel number
2)
Stagesoc deck is stored inside the voids between stacked pieces of rectangular ali-deck, then the squares, triangles and quarter circles of ali-deck are placed atop this stack
